DuBois, PA is located in northwestern Clearfield County, just 2 hours from Pittsburgh and 1 hour from State College. It is easily accessible by way of the DuBois Airport, operated by Southern Airways. Along with neighboring Sandy Township, DuBois has a total area of 56 square miles. The public school system is excellent, and the crime rate is extremely low.
The name “DuBois” comes from the DuBois family that moved there. John DuBois, an American of French Huguenot descent, was a local lumber magnate. DuBois is part of The Pennsylvania Wilds, which is home to 2.1 million acres of public land!
Every year in the beginning of June, the city of DuBois holds “Community Days” for its residents. This is a free event that is sponsored by the DuBois Fire Department. It includes a 5K race, parade, free live entertainment, children’s activities, fireworks, and food booths sponsored by local businesses. DuBois is also home to Showers Field, the premiere amateur baseball field in North Central PA. It has hosted the Small College World Series, as well as the PA American Legion State Tournament.
DuBois is home to DuBois Penn State, a commuter campus of Penn State University. It offers nine associate degrees, seven complete baccalaureate programs, and the first two years of some 160 baccalaureate degrees that can be completed at other colleges, including other Penn State branches.
