Clearfield is located 20 minute northeast of State College, with convenient access to Interstate 80. The town has a total area of 1.88 square miles, and is home to 4 sites on the National Register of Historic Places. 

Clearfield was part of the Great Shamokin Path, a Native American trading route, in the 1600s. It was later settled in 1804, and was chosen as the county seat just one year later. The name Clearfield is believed to stem from the cleared paths that were discovered in the area. 

Clearfield is home to 4 sites on the National Register of Historic Places. Among those is the Clearfield County Courthouse, which dates back to 1860, and the Old Town Historic District, a residential neighborhood with homes dating back to 1860-1890. Bigler’s Rocks, known as “Rock City”, is located just a short drive from Clearfield. It consists of a 50 feet thick Homewood sandstone, which has an age of 316-320 million years old. The bed covers hundrends of yards and is broken up by opening, passages, arches, and fissures, and is popular site for hiking. 

The Clearfield County Fair is held the first week in August annually, and is one of the biggest events is Pennsylvania. The fair includes nationally renowned live entertainment, livestock, rides, and food booths.
